Japanese companies showcased pearlsat two major international jewelry exhibitions held in Hong Kong this month,reinforcing the country’s strong presence in the global pearl market.
The events — considered among thelargest jewelry trade shows in the world — brought together more than 4,000companies from over 40 countries and regions. The exhibitions included the HongKong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show at AsiaWorld-Expo and the HongKong International Jewelry Show at the Hong Kong Convention and ExhibitionCentre.
Over 300 Japanese businessesparticipated in the fairs, including companies from Mie Prefecture incentral Japan, a region widely recognized as a major hub for pearlcultivation and processing.

Some exhibitors were reportedlyunable to attend this year’s events due to flight cancellations followingheightened geopolitical tensions involving US and Israeli actions related toIran. Despite these disruptions, trade activities continued at the exhibitions.
Buyers from mainland China and otherregions were seen conducting business meetings and exploring purchasing opportunities.

A wholesaler from mainland Chinaattending the exhibition stated that Japanese pearls remain highly popular inthe Chinese market, particularly due to their size and surface texture. Thebuyer expressed interest in acquiring products that meet quality expectations.

Ogami Naotaka, president of a pearlprocessing and sales company in Mie Prefecture, said Hong Kong remains one ofthe most effective locations for promoting Japanese pearls because it bringstogether international buyers in one place.
