February 21, 2019

Global fine jewelry company Brilliant Earth has released its 2025 Mission Report, highlighting two decades of efforts to promote ethical sourcing, sustainability, and responsible practices in the jewelry industry.

The report outlines measurable progress across the company’s four mission pillars—Transparency, Sustainability, Compassion, and Inclusion—while presenting new initiatives aimed at strengthening responsible business practices across the global jewelry supply chain.

Two Decades of Ethical Jewelry Innovation

Founded in 2005, Brilliant Earth has positioned itself as a leader in ethically sourced jewelry, offering engagement rings, wedding bands, and fine jewelry made from responsibly sourced materials.

“Twenty years ago, we founded Brilliant Earth on the belief that business could be a force for good,” said Beth Gerstein, co-founder and CEO of the company. “Our 2025 Mission Report reflects how far we have come and reinforces our commitment to driving meaningful change across the jewelry industry.”

The report acknowledges the role of customers, partners, employees, and mining communities in helping advance the company’s ethical sourcing mission.

Sustainability Initiatives and Climate Goals

Brilliant Earth reported progress in sustainability and environmental responsibility. The company was recognized as the Most Sustainable Jewelry Brand by the Association of Intelligent Diamond International and also received recognition for sustainable engagement rings and colored gemstones.

The company also launched its second limited-edition jewelry collection with conservationist Jane Goodall, with 10% of net proceeds supporting the Jane Goodall Legacy Foundation Fund, which funds conservation, research, and education initiatives.

Brilliant Earth continues implementing its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated roadmap, with a commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Transparency in Responsible Sourcing

The company’s Mission Report includes disclosure of 105 sustainability indicators based on GRI and SASB standards, reflecting ongoing transparency in corporate reporting.

Brilliant Earth’s Beyond Conflict Free™ sourcing standard continues to guide its diamond supply chain practices, promoting traceable diamonds and encouraging responsible mining standards worldwide.

The company also reported significant progress toward its goal of using 100% repurposed or Fairmined precious metals:

  • 99.5% of gold used by the company is repurposed
  • 96.4% of silver comes from recycled sources

Purchases of Fairmined gold have increased 691% since 2021, helping support responsible small-scale mining operations and assisting four gold mines in the Amazon region in achieving Fairmined certification.

Community Impact and Responsible Mining Support

Through the Brilliant Earth Foundation, established in 2021, the company has committed over $2 million to nonprofit initiatives worldwide.

Collaborations with environmental organization Pure Earth have supported reforestation of 4.75 hectares in the Peruvian Amazon and promoted mercury-free mining practices.

The company has also expanded the Moyo Gems program, which supports female artisanal miners, from Tanzania into Kenya. Additional investments have been made in the Gem Legacy campus in Tanzania to strengthen education and industry development.

Diversity and Workplace Recognition

Brilliant Earth reported strong representation of women across its workforce:

  • 72% of employees identify as women
  • 73% of people managers are women
  • 58% of senior leadership roles are held by women

The company has received multiple workplace recognitions, including Great Place to Work Certification (2024–2026) and Top Workplaces 2025 awards for employee recognition and professional development.

CEO Beth Gerstein also received the Jewelers for Children Facets of Hope Award for charitable contributions and industry impact.
